The Raja Saab's Box Office Performance: A Disappointing Weekend
The highly anticipated film, The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas, had a disappointing opening weekend, with collections plummeting to Rs. 20.50 crore on Sunday. This marks a significant drop from the first day's collection of Rs. 66 crore, resulting in a total of Rs. 114 crore for the three-day opening weekend. The film's performance overseas was even more concerning, with a mere USD 225K on Sunday, a stark contrast to the opening day's performance.
Despite the holiday support, the film's overall performance has been underwhelming, with a 42% drop from Saturday to Sunday in Nizam, one of the Telugu states. The Hindi version also experienced a decline each day of the weekend, indicating a general lack of interest. The film's high production costs, estimated at over Rs. 400 crore, make the recovery highly dependent on theatrical performances, which have been subpar.
The territorial breakdown reveals a mixed bag of results. While AP/TS and Ceded performed relatively well, other regions like Nizam, Andhra, and Karnataka saw a decline. The Tamil Nadu and Kerala region, along with the rest of India, contributed significantly, but the overall worldwide box office gross of Rs. 144.50 crore fell short of the expected Rs. 150 crore. The Sankranti holidays provide a glimmer of hope, as the Telugu states are expected to generate some revenue during the week-long stretch.
The film's fate now hinges on the theatrical performance in the coming days, as the non-theatrical revenue stream is expected to remain low. The Raja Saab's success will depend on whether it can reverse this trend and attract more audiences to the theaters.
