While it's effective for moderate to severe pain, many users may not realize that taking additional paracetamol on top of co-codamol can lead to an overdose.
And here's where it gets controversial: users, in an attempt to manage their pain, might take paracetamol in addition to their co-codamol, unaware that they're already consuming paracetamol. This can result in a dangerous overdose, causing severe liver damage or failure, which can be fatal.
But here's the good news: the NHS recommends safer alternatives. If you're taking co-codamol and need additional pain relief, consider ibuprofen or aspirin, which are considered safe to combine.
However, be cautious of other medications containing paracetamol, such as Tramacet and co-dydramol, as well as some migraine remedies and cough/cold medications like Lemsip and Night Nurse.
And this is the part most people miss: certain medications can affect how co-codamol works, and vice versa. So, always inform your doctor about all the medications you're taking to ensure compatibility.
