She was placed on supplemental oxygen and prescribed a nebulizer and respiratory medication.
However, upon her return to the Dilley detention facility amidst a measles outbreak, these vital medications were taken away. The lawsuit states that Amalia lost 10% of her body weight and was given nutritional drinks, only to have them confiscated by authorities. Her attorney, Elora Mukherjee, emphasizes that Amalia "should never have been detained" and that she "nearly died" at Dilley.
Mukherjee further alleges that hundreds of children and families at Dilley face similar struggles, lacking adequate water, nutritious food, education, and proper medical care. She advocates for their release, stating, "They should be released."
