Google's Gemini AI is getting smarter at spotting AI-generated content. From today, users can ask Gemini if an image is AI-made, and it will respond with a yes or no. This initial feature is limited to images, but Google promises to expand it to videos and audio soon. The real breakthrough will come when Gemini supports industry-standard C2PA content credentials, allowing it to detect content from various AI tools and creative software, including OpenAI's Sora. Google's Nano Banana Pro model images will also have C2PA metadata, a significant development after TikTok's confirmation of using C2PA for AI-generated content. While manual verification is helpful, the real challenge lies in social media platforms automatically flagging AI-generated content, rather than relying on users to do the work. This is a crucial step towards a more transparent and trustworthy AI-generated content ecosystem.
